How to Clean and Care for Your Paracord Bracelet

A Boysouls bracelet is built to be a life-long companion. Our paracord is tactical-grade and our hardware is hand-cast to withstand the elements. However, like any piece of high-quality gear, a little bit of maintenance goes a long way in keeping it looking as good as the day you first put it on.

Whether you've been hiking in the mud or just wearing it every day at the office, here is how to properly care for your paracord bracelet.

Can You Wash a Paracord Bracelet?

The short answer: Yes. Paracord is essentially nylon, which is highly resistant to water. It won’t rot or mold, and it won’t shrink if it gets wet. However, it can trap dirt, sweat, and oils from your skin within the weave, which can make the colors look dull over time.

Note: We do NOT recommend putting your bracelet in the washing machine or dishwasher. The heavy metal clasps can damage your appliances (and the appliances can scratch your clasp).

Step-by-Step Cleaning Guide for Paracord and Hardware

Follow these steps for a safe, effective clean:

  1. Prepare a solution: Mix lukewarm water with a small amount of mild dish soap or laundry detergent. Avoid harsh chemicals or bleach.
  2. Soak: Let your bracelet soak in the soapy water for 10-15 minutes. This helps loosen any trapped dirt inside the paracord weave.
  3. Scrub gently: Use a soft-bristled toothbrush to gently scrub the paracord and the metal clasp. Pay extra attention to the crevices in the detailed designs (like the Tiger’s fur or the Oni’s face).
  4. Rinse: Rinse thoroughly with clean, cool water until all soap residue is gone.
  5. Air Dry: Pat the bracelet dry with a towel and then lay it flat to air dry completely. Do not use a hair dryer or high heat, as excessive heat can damage the nylon fibers of the paracord.

How to Keep the Clasp Shining (Brass vs Cupronickel)

Our clasps are made from solid metals, not cheap plating. This means they will naturally develop a "patina" (a slightly darkened, aged look) over time, which many of our customers love because it adds to the rugged character.

  • If you like the Patina: Just follow the basic cleaning steps above. The metal will look clean but retain its aged character.
  • If you want a Mirror Shine: Use a dedicated metal polishing cloth. For brass clasps, a tiny bit of brass polish can restore the original gold-like shine. For cupronickel (silver-tone) clasps, a standard silver polishing cloth works wonders.

Storing Your Bracelet to Maintain Its Shape

When you’re not wearing your Boysouls bracelet, it’s best to store it flat or wrapped around a watch roll. Avoid cramming it into a tight pocket or a tangled drawer, as this can put unnecessary stress on the weave over long periods. Keeping it in a dry place will also slow down the natural oxidation of the metal hardware.

Why Boysouls Craftsmanship Makes Maintenance Easy

We use high-density weaves and premium hardware because we know our customers actually use their gear. You don't have to baby a Boysouls bracelet. It's designed to get dirty and be cleaned, to be worn in the rain and dried out. It's a rugged piece of equipment for a rugged lifestyle.
